Healthwatch Wolverhampton
Project case study
People’s experiences of mental health services

Healthwatch Wolverhampton investigated local people’s experiences of adult mental health services to identify how services could be improved.
Between July 2024 and September 2024, they gathered feedback from people at community events, via an online survey (64 responses), and from patients and staff during an Enter and View visit to Penn Hospital.
The key findings highlighted three main issues that impact on patients – a limited choice of timely support, a lack of empathy from some healthcare professionals, and poor communication about treatment options.
Healthwatch Wolverhampton set out several recommendations in the report to improve people’s access to and experience of mental health services and are very pleased to see that the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has already made improvements such as taking onboard their feedback to improve the activities area.
